An Autumn Charity Quarter Auction
On October 27, we had a very successful second annual WMCD Quarter Auction, hosted by ‘This & That Quarter Auctions’, with the support of so many members of our community! Beginning at 1:00pm, the hall at the East Mountain Country Club opened their kitchen for anyone to come in and enjoy a lunch with family and friends before the auction started at 2! Vendors started setting up their booths, offering prizes of all sorts. We were lucky enough to have amazing vendors this year: Moon Jules Scents, HuGGable Snugglies, Riverside Embroidery, Bagg Mann, Avon with Patti, Grandma Hubbards Candy Cupboard, The Bower Collection, Craftily Engineered, and Patti Cakes Gourmet Cupcakes! In total, we raised over $1,000!
If you’ve never heard of a quarter auction before, it’s actually quite simple! Each vendor presents an item for auction, and based on the value of that item, you place quarters in the center of your table. Then, you raise your paddles to bid on the item, and if your paddle number is called, you win! By the time 2:00pm rolled around, there were nearly sixty people filling the tables we had set up - and we even sold all of the paddles we originally put out for sale! It’s always a heartwarming feeling when the room fills up at one of our fundraisers, as it shows us that the community is truly behind the grand vision we have set for the future!
The director of our organization, Harry Monti, spoke briefly about who WMCD is, and the charities we are raising money for: Rick’s Place (providing grief support), Rachel’s Table (battling food insecurity), and Griffin’s Friends (supporting children with cancer). Then, it was time to kick off the event. With energy in the air, we spent a couple hours auctioning off one item at a time, handing out prizes left and right! One of the best parts about quarter auctions? It’s so easy (and cheap) to win items you are most interested in! After the bidding concluded, attendees had the opportunity to visit any of the vendors booths and purchase more items from them, if they didn’t win the prize they were hoping for.
We want to take a moment and extend a huge THANK YOU to ‘This & That Quarter Auctions’, all of our vendors, our WMCD volunteers, and of course, everyone who attended the event to help us do good in the community. We truly wouldn’t be able to make such a large impact without your continued support.
But just in case you missed out - we have two more fundraisers before the end of 2024. A Jess Miller FunnyRaising Comedy Show on November 23, and our 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast on December 7. And since we had so much fun on Sunday, we might just do it again next year!
